India's IndiGo launches cheaper tickets for passengers with cabin baggage only
IndiGo has introduced lower fares for passengers travelling with only cabin baggage, as Indian airlines continue unbundling services to reduce ticket prices. Reuters reported on July 1 that the carrier is offering cheaper terms for travellers who do not check bags. The move aligns with broader cost-control strategies across the market, where optional add-ons replace what used to be included in standard fares. Last month, rival Air India launched a basic economy fare that excludes complimentary meals for price-conscious travellers. By targeting cabin-bag-only customers, IndiGo aims to attract demand from more price-sensitive segments while keeping ancillary revenue options available. The change reflects competitive pressure among Indian carriers seeking to differentiate through fare structures.
