Inglorious end as rain cancels final MotoGP race at Phillip Island in setback for Márquez
xCruzo Brief
Rain and poor visibility forced organisers to cancel the final Australian MotoGP at Phillip Island, denying Marc Márquez the chance to extend his championship lead over injured Jorge Martin. Despite a sell-out crowd, the race was stopped because conditions were considered unsafe, with limited sight making racing impossible. Moto3 and Moto2 were also called off. The Australian event will relocate next year to a Melbourne city-centre street circuit in Adelaide’s package after contract negotiations: Promoter MotoGP Sports Entertainment had sought to move it to Albert Park. Martin, who fractured his forearm in Saturday’s sprint crash, will now start next week’s Malaysia round 10 points behind.
