Jeep Cherokee vs Subaru Forester: Edmunds sizes up hybrid SUVs
Edmunds compares two hybrid SUVs— the Jeep Cherokee and the Subaru Forester— as they court buyers looking for higher MPG with weekend access to the outdoors. The redesigned 2026 Jeep Cherokee returns after a three-year hiatus and comes with a hybrid powertrain rated at an EPA-estimated 37 mpg combined. The Subaru Forester Hybrid added the option for 2025, improving fuel economy, performance, and refinement, with an EPA-estimated 35 mpg combined. Both models are standard all-wheel drive with no front-wheel-drive option. In Edmunds testing, the Cherokee reached 0–60 mph in 8.7 seconds, versus 8.8 for the Forester Hybrid. Edmunds notes the Cherokee’s hybrid system reduces cabin noise and vibration, while the Forester’s ride is smoother over bumps and ruts. For road trips and cargo, Edmunds favors the Forester, but flags Forester infotainment responsiveness and some driver-assistance execution issues.
