Johann Zarco retires from Australian GP sprint: It was "dangerous" to continue
xCruzo Brief
Johann Zarco was forced to retire from the Australian Grand Prix sprint after an electronic issue made continuing “dangerous,” he said. Riding for LCR Honda, Zarco had impressed in qualifying at Phillip Island on wet conditions, progressing through Q1 and starting the front row behind the Ducati entries of Marc and Alex Marquez. But his sprint lasted only three full laps before technical problems sent him into the pits. Zarco later explained that a faulty gearbox sensor meant he could no longer see which gear he was in, and that a broader electronic problem affected handling and traction systems. He stopped on lap 4 with the bike behaving strangely in TC and engine braking.
