Kia to make and sell electric vehicle in Mexico, invest $649 million

Kia says it will produce and sell a fully electric vehicle in Mexico, committing $649 million to the effort. Speaking on Wednesday during President Claudia Sheinbaum’s daily press conference in Mexico City, Kia managing director Hugo Chavez said the automaker will manufacture the EV locally and bring it to market from Mexico. The announcement adds to Mexico’s growing role in global EV manufacturing investments, as automakers look for production footprint flexibility and access to regional supply chains. Kia did not detail which model will be built under the plan or when production is expected to begin.
