Lewis Hamilton 'ecstatic' after securing sprint race pole at British Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton delivered a standout performance at the British Grand Prix by securing pole position for Saturday’s sprint race at Silverstone. The Ferrari driver beat Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli by just 0.011 seconds to set up the front for the 17-lap dash. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen qualified third, while Hamilton’s teammate Charles Leclerc starts alongside him, with George Russell finishing fifth. Hamilton said he is not focusing on winning a record eighth world title, but the result reinforces expectations that he is in contention this season. He noted the home crowd and the team’s continuous upgrades, after raising his momentum following a victory in Austria five days earlier. At the circuit, 16,000 fans watched tense qualifying periods, with McLaren’s mechanics working on Lando Norris, who ultimately started sixth and was ahead of Oscar Piastri.
