Looking for the ultimate car 'flex'? Buy a sedan with a V12 engine, insiders say

For consumers chasing the “flex” of maximum cylinder counts, a V12 sedan is increasingly an ultra-niche choice. AutoPacific’s Robby DeGraff tells ABC News that the V12 represents peak refinement and is a unique powertrain statement—yet it’s under pressure as emissions rules tighten and electric vehicles rise. Today, DeGraff says the only V12 sedans available are the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class 680 and the Rolls-Royce Ghost and Phantom, while V12 offerings for sports-car fans are limited to models such as the Aston Martin Vanquish, Ferrari 12Cilindri and Purosangue, and Lamborghini Revuelto. Mercedes CEO Ola Källenius said last December the V12 will be “available for the foreseeable future.” The Maybach S 680 is priced at $247,450 and makes 621 hp and 664 lb-ft, sprinting 0–60 mph in 4.3 seconds; the Maybach S 580 (V8) costs $210,200.
