A 27-year-old angler, Sebastian Achim, says he wasn’t sure he would survive after a suspected shark bite off County Waterford in the Irish Sea. The incident was reported Tuesday afternoon near Ram Head, Ardmore, about four miles offshore, when Achim’s leg was bitten from the deck of a small fishing boat. The crew of five was preparing to release their catch when the shark allegedly lunged. Achim was airlifted by an Irish Coast Guard helicopter to Cork University Hospital after first aid to stem bleeding. Ireland’s Transport Department confirmed the leg injury and said RNLI Ballycotton’s lifeboat also launched. The suspected species was a blue shark.
