Man Buys A Used Car With A Warranty. Then He Realizes Just How Difficult It Can Be To Use It
A mechanic’s warning about used-car warranties highlights how coverage can become complicated when a claim is filed. The account, shared by TikTok user Chris Carlisle (@chriscarlisle07), describes a customer who bought a used car with a warranty from Carlisle’s dealership. After the transmission failed, Carlisle submitted a claim and the warranty company approved it, but only agreed to pay for a used transmission rather than a new or remanufactured one. Carlisle offered the customer the option to pay the difference for a remanufactured replacement, but the owner—reportedly “tight on funds”—accepted the used part. Shortly after the repair, during a road trip, the transmission failed again and the warranty company allegedly denied the claim, citing that the car needed to be returned to the dealership where the original work was done. Carlisle said the customer was still responsible for diagnostic and transportation costs.
