Marco Bezzecchi's first words after Assen MotoGP accident
Marco Bezzecchi said it was time to “nurse the aches and pains” after a high-speed Assen MotoGP crash derailed his championship lead. The lap 2 accident cost the Italian the top spot in the standings to Aprilia teammate Jorge Martin. Bezzecchi lost control through the 200 km/h Turn 15 left-hander while running fourth, then slid into a series of cartwheels across the gravel trap. He came to rest near the barrier, received treatment from medics, and was taken to the medical centre. Due to “severe pain resulting from the high-energy impact,” he was transferred to hospital for further examinations, but no injuries were detected, allowing him to be discharged and return home on Sunday evening. On Monday, he posted about nursing the pain and emphasized there would be “no giving up.” After Bezzecchi’s DNF, Ai Ogura won, while Jorge Martin became new championship leader. Bezzecchi sits seven points behind Martin heading into Sachsenring.
