McLaren has confirmed that it is building SUV; could be launched by end of this decade

McLaren has confirmed a £500 million investment that will bring its first SUV to the UK, with production supported by a second vehicle assembly plant in the country. The performance-focused SUV is still in early development, but McLaren says it is targeting a market launch before the end of the decade. The expansion will also allow the company to bring engine development and manufacturing in-house for the first time, and McLaren expects roughly 1,000 direct jobs plus about 3,000 in the wider supply network. COO Michael Straughan told Autocar that McLaren previously rejected an SUV, but now plans a hybrid powertrain; details on power and hardware are not yet confirmed.
