A routine cargo landing turned catastrophic at Miami International Airport on Sunday afternoon when an Amazon-linked Boeing 767 cargo plane overran a runway, struck multiple vehicles and burst into flames. Officials with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue confirmed five people were killed and five others were injured. Three of the injured remained in critical condition at a trauma center, while two were also taken to hospitals. Investigators said the aircraft, operated by 21 Air for Amazon Air, exited the usable runway portion while attempting to land at about 130 mph and did not have an emergency declared by the pilots before touchdown. The NTSB and FAA launched a full investigation.
