NASCAR history celebrated through new exhibit at Savoy Automobile Museum
NASCAR history is being showcased in a new exhibit at the Savoy Automobile Museum in Cartersville, Georgia, as fans head to races at EchoPark Speedway this weekend. The museum says the display highlights seven distinct generations of NASCAR racecars, with examples spanning the sport’s evolution. The exhibit, titled “From Stock Cars to Racecars,” went on display last month and will run through September 27, featuring vehicles driven by legends including Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Bill Elliott, and Jeff Gordon. The museum notes that NASCAR’s official story begins in December 1947, when Bill France Sr. hosted a stock-car racing meeting in Daytona Beach. Within months, the first NASCAR race was held on Daytona Beach’s road course, won by Red Byron. Cars on display range from a 1963 Chevrolet Impala SS driven by Junior Johnson to a 2024 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE driven by William Byron. The exhibit is included with admission: $17 for adults and $7 for youth ages 3 to 12. The museum operates Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
