New lithium mine in Cornwall 'set to create more than 100 jobs'

A new lithium extraction facility in Cornwall is expected to deliver more than 100 jobs under UK government plans to strengthen industrial resilience and critical supply chains. Geothermal Engineering Limited said it will invest about £43m in the project, targeting commercial production in 2029. Officials said the investment will create nearly 50 direct roles and support around 80 more through the supply chain after receiving an in-principle offer worth nearly £10m via the Government’s DRIVE35 Automotive Transformation Fund. The plant could produce about 1,500 tonnes of technical-grade lithium carbonate annually from geothermal brine, enough for over 180,000 typical EV battery packs.
