New XPENG Robotaxi: KITT Or My Mother The Car...Or Both!
XPeng is moving closer to marketing a robotaxi as the company positions its technology as a production-ready, fully autonomous passenger-car platform. The company has announced the start of mass production for a new “robootaxi,” describing it as China’s first production-ready, pre-assembled robotaxi model developed with in-house technologies and engineered to L4 autonomous driving standards. XPeng says the system uses four self-developed Turing AI chips delivering 3,000 TOPS of onboard computing power, built on its GX platform. In recent updates, the company said it has begun employee testing, including an automated ride experienced by chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng from ordering pickup to reaching a destination. XPeng also aims to enable other robotaxi fleets globally rather than operating its own ride-hailing service. The approach places XPeng alongside but distinct from other Chinese robotaxi efforts led by tech firms and dedicated startups.
