When Arsenal beat PSG on their way to winning the Cup Winners' Cup
Arsenal's 1993-94 Cup Winners' Cup campaign highlighted a disciplined defense as the key to progress toward the Copenhagen final. After a cautious start, they beat Odense 3-2 on aggregate, then thrashed Standard Liège 10-0, including a 7-0 Belgian rout, to reach the quarter-finals against Torino. Manager George Graham's side faced Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals, with the first leg at Parc des Princes ending 0-0 and Tony Adams heading in the winner at Highbury. PSG, led by Artur Jorge and featuring Valdo, Raí, Ginola and Weah, had eliminated Real Madrid and were riding a 35-match unbeaten run. Arsenal advanced by drawing 1-1 in London, having secured a 0-0 away leg, thereby progressing to the Copenhagen final to meet Parma. PSG had pressed hard, but Arsenal's defensive organisation carried them through to the final. Arsenal then beat Parma in Copenhagen to win the Cup Winners' Cup, the club's first European trophy since 1970, with Wright and Adams delivering key moments and a chant that became part of the campaign’s lore.
