Tesla Could Build A Model 3 Plaid. That Doesn't Mean It Will

Tesla’s engineering chief says the company often contemplates a tri‑motor Plaid powertrain inside a Model 3, even as priorities lie elsewhere. On Ride The Lightning, Lars Moravy explained that the idea of a Plaid Model 3 remains a credible internal topic, while the company focuses on other products after retiring the Model S and Model X. He notes that the Plaid hardware originated with a Roadster prototype and later powered the Model S Plaid, aided by carbon sleeves that enable higher RPM and performance, illustrating why engineers still discuss the concept inside the company.
