The Comeback Kings of D-II do it again as Middletown walks off a winner
The Middletown Islanders staged a dramatic comeback in a Division II baseball showdown against Narragansett at Johnston Memorial Park on May 23, pulling off a 2-1 walk-off victory that kept their season alive. Cameron Carlisle opened the bottom of the seventh with a leadoff double, and Noah Travers followed with a single to right to score Colton Kerrison from second for the decisive run. Evan Agren, spent after a long relief shift, reflected on the moment as Narragansett ace Zayden Kent had been dominant through most of the game. Kent, who will pitch for the University of Rhode Island next spring, had retired 4 1/3 innings before Middletown mounted the closing rally.
Kent was efficient early, but a late rally changed the complexion as Middletown capitalized on defensive miscues and timely hitting. In the seventh, Carlisle’s double set up Travers’s game-winning hit, delivering the walk-off that sealed a memorable victory and extended Middletown’s season into the postseason.
