Princess Diana 'revenge dress' Jaguar up for sale in Oxfordshire
The auction of Princess Diana's Jaguar XJ40, famed for her Vanity Fair party appearance in the revenge dress, is set to take place in Oxfordshire. On 29 June 1994 the princess stepped out of the car wearing a black off-the-shoulder silk and chiffon dress, an ensemble later dubbed the revenge dress. The XJ40 had joined Diana's stable about three years earlier and remained with her until her death in 1997. The Market, based at Milton Park near Didcot, will run a seven-day online sale starting 1 June. The car's royal provenance adds notable historical value.
Livesey said the car's royal provenance makes it highly desirable, far above a typical 1994 Jaguar. The Market has previously sold other celebrity vehicles, including George Michael's Range Rover and Sean Connery's BMW, and while exact price is unpredictable, Livesey said it could significantly exceed a standard model. He expressed optimism about finding a new owner who will appreciate its history. The online auction begins June 1 and runs for seven days.
