Detroit police, fire departments staff up for Grand Prix
Detroit readies for the Grand Prix with a robust safety and crowd-management plan. The 30th Grand Prix at Belle Isle will see police deploy both uniformed and plainclothes officers downtown and around the city, with extensive technological support, to ensure safety as the race unfolds this Sunday. Fire officials will also augment staffing to manage emergencies and crowd flow, including hazardous-material monitoring and waterway protection. Parking policies have been adjusted; meter payments won’t be enforced on Sunday, but parking must occur in designated areas, and attendees are urged to use public transit. Downtown stakeholders encourage visitors to explore beyond the course, while authorities emphasize swift response to any disorderly conduct.
