Norris snatches pole from penalized Hamilton at Hungarian Grand Prix

In Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying, Lando Norris snatched pole position from Lewis Hamilton by 0.012 seconds, taking his first pole of 2026. The defending Formula 1 champion had Norris in control after Hamilton, who was on pace for a record 105th pole and his first full grand prix pole since Hungary in 2023, was penalized and dropped to fifth for impeding McLaren’s Oscar Piastri. Charles Leclerc claimed third for Ferrari, 0.238 seconds off Norris, and will start alongside him in second place on the grid. Kimi Antonelli finished fourth, after being seemingly held up by Red Bull’s Max Verstappen spinning ahead of him, while George Russell was seventh. The penalty reshuffled title rivals, with Antonelli starting ahead of Hamilton and Russell. Norris’s last pole had ended badly after Las Vegas.
