Opinion | Nikole Hannah-Jones vs. Randi Weingarten

A dispute between Nikole Hannah-Jones and Randi Weingarten has spilled into public view, centering on New York City public schools and accountability for student outcomes. The opening point comes from Weingarten, who argues that Hannah-Jones “must learn what went wrong” and suggests the teachers-union leader should “look in the mirror.” The exchange follows Hannah-Jones’s widely discussed New York Times article about what she describes as a decade-long pattern of failures in NYC public schools related to her daughter’s education. The piece also drew a response from Weingarten, highlighting disagreement over how problems should be identified and addressed.
