Oyo abductions: Bauchi governor blames insecurity on poor governance, poverty. Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State travelled to Ibadan to meet Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde at his private residence to express condolences and solidarity over the abduction of teachers and pupils in Yawota and Esiele within Oriire Local Government Area. Accompanied by Allied People's Movement leaders, including National Chairman Yusuf Dantalle and gubernatorial candidate Yakubu Adamu, Mohammed urged a rejig of the nation’s security architecture to better protect citizens. Makinde’s media adviser, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, released the statement, noting the May 15 attack in which a teacher was killed and more than 45 pupils and staff were abducted. The visit underscored cross-state political interactions amid ongoing security challenges.
Mohammed commended Makinde’s efforts to secure the abductees and offered Bauchi’s support to aid their release, describing Makinde as a dynamic leader with energy and drive who can influence governance. He argued that the insecurity is the result of poor governance and poverty, urging citizens to take responsibility and calling on leaders to be elected who can deliver security and welfare. He called for closer cooperation between security agencies and citizens and stressed the need to rethink national security policy to address underlying socio-economic factors. He also expressed hope that cross-state collaboration would yield tangible progress and improve public safety.
