Rally legend Carlos Sainz drives WRC Ford Puma Rally1 to victory
xCruzo Brief
Double world rally champion Carlos Sainz won Rally de Asturias Historico in Spain, making his competitive debut behind the wheel of a Ford Puma Rally1 World Rally Championship car. The 10-stage asphalt event covering 126.66 competitive kilometres ran as a tribute to Sainz’s career. The 64-year-old teamed with long-time co-driver Luis Moya and faced former WRC rivals Sebastien Loeb and Francois Delecour, both driving Peugeot 306 Maxi cars. Loeb led after winning the first three stages, but Sainz responded with two wins in the next three and took control when Loeb’s clutch failed in stage eight. Sainz won by 1min03.6s from Delecour.
