Removed from Affordable Care Act over fraud claims, Trump administration says

The Trump administration says it will remove 760,000 people enrolled in Affordable Care Act exchange plans after alleging many were fraudulently signed up or do not exist. Vice President JD Vance said the change will cancel about 315,000 enrollments affecting 760,000 people and lead to $2.2 billion in cost savings, as the government found it had not been checking eligibility. Another 419,000 enrollments will face additional verification. The administration also announced a six-month pause on new healthcare agents or brokers signing up enrollees, citing disproportionate fraud. HHS says roughly 19.2 million Americans were enrolled in ACA marketplace plans as of early 2026.
