Room for error' as Amazon's plans to install subsea cables off coast of Wexford approved

Amazon faces a no-room-for-error mandate as it advances plans to install the Beaufort subsea fibre optic cable off County Wexford. The 38.5-kilometer route would run 12 nautical miles from Kilmore Quay to Pembrokeshire, Wales, with cables 33 mm in diameter buried about 1.5 meters deep and designed for a 35-year life. The project aims to replace the 1999 installation now reaching the end of its lifespan and to boost rural Ireland's high-capacity connectivity. Local councillors heard that Amazon has funded over €125,000 across 15 community projects, and they sought assurances on environmental impact and fishing grounds.
