Riegel spoke with ScreenRant about the 'bard-on-bard' duel, noting that Critical Role always aimed for such a clash, even though Campaign 1 lacked an evil bard. The villain's speaking and singing voice is provided by Tom Cardy, whom Riegel praised for hitting the high notes. Writing the songs before animation proved a challenge, with work dating back about two years to let Titmouse animate to the beats and drive the battle forward. He said the moment highlights Scanlan's return as a catalyst for the next confrontation with the Cult.
