Semitruck spills 40,000 pounds of Frank's Hot Sauce across highway during brutal heatwave
A semi-truck spilled 40,000 pounds of Frank’s Hot Sauce across Ohio’s Interstate 71 during a heatwave that pushed temperatures above 100 degrees Fahrenheit, according to local reports. The leak began Tuesday as the trailer traveled north on the road in northern Delaware County, leaving a red-hot streak in its wake. Fire crews tracked down the truck and followed the trail to a Pilot truck stop, while also alerting the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency. Crews used containment pools and other hazmat materials to prevent the acidic sauce from reaching drains and causing environmental issues. The trucking company arranged for a cleanup contractor, and officials said the Ohio State Highway Patrol could issue a citation, though none had been issued at the time. Drivers may seek compensation through insurance.
