Silverstone safety car decision was the right call for Wolff
Silverstone safety car decision was the right call for Wolff as Mercedes boss Toto Wolff defended FIA regulations after Sunday’s British Grand Prix ended under safety-car conditions. The race concluded with boos from fans who wanted a last-lap sprint to the finish. Wolff said the outcome was shaped by rules being followed, while also recalling the painful 2021 Abu Dhabi finale when changed safety-car procedures helped Max Verstappen pass Lewis Hamilton and win his first title. On Sunday, Verstappen crashed, prompting a safety car four laps from the end; Hamilton pitted from second but still finished third, with George Russell second behind Charles Leclerc. Wolff acknowledged the spectacle debate but argued regulations guided the decision. He also pointed to an FIA software error related to an earlier announcement about when the safety car would end.
