Someone Spent $7,000 Building a 1:5 Scale Audi 100 Coupe S That Actually Drives

A Chinese YouTube channel, CHUANQI ENGINE, built a remote-controlled 1:5 scale replica of the 1969–1976 Audi 100 Coupé S that can actually drive—reportedly costing more than $7,000. The original model ran just over seven years with fewer than 31,000 units built, and was built as a front-wheel-drive fastback grand tourer. Unlike typical RC projects, the replica doesn’t hide ready-made parts: its clutch, axles, differential, four-speed gearbox, and hydraulic brake calipers were fabricated from raw materials. The build used dyno testing, 3D-printed copper-finished bodywork, and metal structural reinforcements.
