Sonic Automotive Q2 Earnings Call Highlights
Sonic Automotive reported record second-quarter results as revenue rose to $3.9 billion, up 8% year over year, and all-time quarterly gross profit climbed to $616.2 million, up 2%. GAAP earnings were $1.79 per diluted share, compared with adjusted earnings of $1.82, according to CEO David Smith on the company’s second-quarter 2026 earnings call. Smith said growth came from franchised dealerships, EchoPark used-vehicle operations, and Powersports, while new-vehicle affordability pressures continued to shape strategy. Franchised dealership revenue increased 6% to $3.3 billion, though same-store gross profit fell 3%. Sonic raised full-year new-vehicle gross profit per unit guidance to $2,850–$3,000. Fixed operations gross profit hit a quarterly record $263.8 million, and F&I gross profit reached $147.9 million. Management also discussed maintaining inventory turnover and used-vehicle throughput, aiming for 100 used retail units per dealership per month.
