Spaniard reclaims MotoGP series lead after young gun stumbles in Austria

Jorge Martin reclaimed the MotoGP world championship lead with a dramatic Austrian Grand Prix sprint win on Saturday. Starting from pole and coming back from eighth, the Aprilia rider triumphed after long-time leader Pedro Acosta crashed with three laps remaining. Martin had entered the 14-lap sprint level on points with Marc Marquez but was second on countback of wins, then inherited the lead when Acosta went down at Turn 2 in the chicane. Martin crossed the line 1.026 seconds ahead of Marquez, while Marco Bezzecchi finished third, 1.675 seconds from victory. The comeback featured key passes on Francesco Bagnaia, Ai Ogura and Alex Marquez. Acosta’s crash ended Marc Marquez’s two-race sprint winning streak. Jack Miller finished last for Yamaha in 20th.
