Spaniard's Aragon stronghold continues with MotoGP sprint success

Marc Marquez won the Aragon Grand Prix sprint for the third straight season, punching past pole-sitter Marco Bezzecchi at the first corner and then controlling the race to the flag on Saturday. The reigning MotoGP world champion led every lap and took his fifth sprint win in 12 starts in 2026, finishing 1.140 seconds clear of his younger brother Alex Marquez, with Bezzecchi third, 2.089 seconds adrift. Bezzecchi had set the Aragon lap-record earlier in the day at 1min 44.962secs, beating pole by 0.089secs, but could not use his soft rear Michelin tyre effectively on a scorching Alcaniz day where track temperature peaked at 52°C. Jorge Martin slipped to fifth, shrinking his championship lead to 29 points over Bezzecchi. The 23-lap full Grand Prix is scheduled for 10pm AEST on Sunday.
