Subaru recalls more than 541,000 vehicles over labeling error
Subaru of America is recalling 541,237 vehicles due to an error on their certification labels, according to federal regulators. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the labels list an incorrect gross axle weight rating (GAWR), which could result in an overweighted vehicle and increase the risk of a crash. The recall covers certain 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid vehicles, 2025 to 2026 Forester Hybrid and Forester vehicles, and 2019 to 2026 Ascent vehicles. NHTSA said Subaru was notified of the issue in May and that it is not aware of any crashes or injuries linked to the labeling problem. Subaru plans to mail replacement labels with instructions on how to overlay the existing one, or owners can choose to have a dealer replace the label for free. Owner notification letters are scheduled for August 25, 2026, and the recall number is WRH-26.
