Suburban Propane powered an EV charging demonstration with renewable propane during a NASCAR weekend in San Diego, highlighting a portable, lower-carbon approach for on-demand fast charging. The event ran June 19–21, 2026, at the NASCAR race site on Naval Base Coronado. Suburban Propane Partners, L.P. collaborated with ABB, Kempower, and NASCAR to supply renewable propane that fueled generators charging battery energy storage systems powering DC fast chargers. ABB managed power delivery to Kempower’s DC Movable chargers, enabling flexible deployment where grid access is limited, temporary, or cost-prohibitive. The setup demonstrated mobile off-grid charging support for temporary, high-demand conditions while aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions versus traditional diesel generation. The companies framed the project as a scalable model that combines renewable propane generation with mobile charging technology.
