Supreme Court rejects Trump's attempt to fire Fed's Lisa Cook as legal battle continues
The U.S. Supreme Court rejected President Donald Trump’s attempt to remove Lisa Cook from the Federal Reserve Board of Governors while the legal fight continues. In a 5–4 decision on Monday, the court denied the president’s request to allow him to oust Cook following allegations of mortgage fraud. The ruling lets Cook remain in her role at the central bank as proceedings proceed through the courts. The Supreme Court also left in place a lower-court decision that had blocked her firing, while Cook’s legal challenge continues. Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the majority opinion, joined by Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan, Brett Kavanaugh, and Ketanji Brown Jackson. Earlier, Trump had sought emergency relief last September, and the justices had allowed Cook to stay temporarily as they considered freezing the lower-court order.
