Tesla is at the center of China’s largest-ever vehicle recall, with nearly 3 million cars affected as regulators target flush, electrically operated door handles. The State Administration for Market Regulation announced the recall Friday, covering about 4.3 million vehicles from roughly ten automakers over handles that may be difficult to open in an emergency. Tesla accounts for 2.98 million units, spanning Model 3, Model Y, Model S and Model X, built between March 4, 2019 and April 29, 2026, in both China-made and imported versions. The fix starts September 25. Tesla will add warning labels for mechanical emergency releases and push an over-the-air update that lowers windows automatically after collision detection. China is also banning concealed power door handles starting January 1, 2027.
