Tesla said Friday it is recalling nearly 3 million vehicles in China, the largest automotive recall in the country’s history, after complaints that certain doors may be hard to open in an emergency. The recall affects imported and China-made Model 3, Model Y, Model S and Model X cars, according to notices filed with China’s State Administration for Market Regulation. Tesla said the electronically operated, retractable door handles could become difficult to operate after a severe crash if the vehicle’s low-voltage system fails, potentially hindering occupants’ escape and complicating rescue efforts. Tesla will attach warning labels and remotely update window-control software to lower windows after an accident; owners who can’t get fixes remotely will be scheduled for service. Tesla also issued a separate recall for driver-monitoring system issues, with a software upgrade and in-cabin camera monitoring. Other automakers joining recalls include Xiaomi, Leapmotor, Xpeng and Geely Holding.
