Tesla to wind down Cybertruck production after years of poor sales in few markets
xCruzo Brief
Tesla will wind down Cybertruck production at its Texas gigafactory around mid-2027, CEO Elon Musk said Friday, after persistently weak sales for the futuristic pickup. Musk said the move would free capacity for increased output of the Cybercab, a model he has placed at the center of Tesla’s robotaxi ambitions. It was unclear whether production would be moved elsewhere, but Reuters noted the Austin plant is the only known Tesla site equipped to make the Cybertruck’s specialized components. Deliveries to customers began in late 2023. Kelley Blue Book figures show Tesla sold 20,237 Cybertrucks in the US last year, down from 38,965 in 2024. Musk had predicted 250,000 units annually before launch.
