Texas faces red-hot No. 3 Georgia to open CWS

Texas opens the College World Series in Omaha against No. 3 Georgia, the highest remaining seed in Bracket 2 alongside Oklahoma and No. 7 Alabama. The Longhorns will start sophomore left-hander Dylan Volantis (10-1, 2.03 ERA) on Saturday against Georgia, which leads college baseball with 174 homers this season and blasted nine at Foley Field in Athens during the Super Regional. Foley Field’s 315-foot right-field line is considered hitter-friendly, while Charles Schwab Field sits deeper down that line; a 15 mph north wind could blow out to right and help Georgia’s power. Georgia also features Daniel Jackson with 31 homers, and other threats such as Brennan Hudson (21) and Michael O’Shaughnessey (20).
