These Two Unusual Hybrids Get Basically The Same MPG, But Only One Does 0-60 In Under 3 Seconds - Jalopnik
Two unusual hybrid vehicles deliver similar fuel economy figures, but only one reaches 0–60 mph in under 3 seconds, according to Jalopnik’s comparison of a 2009-era Cadillac Escalade hybrid and the latest Porsche 911 Carrera GTS hybrid. The Escalade hybrid used a GM two-motor system with a 332-hp 6.0-liter V8 plus two 80-hp electric motors driving the rear axle through a continuously variable transmission, backed by a 300-volt nickel-metal hydride battery under the rear seats. In Car and Driver testing, it ran to 60 mph in 8.4 seconds. The 2026 911 GTS pairs a 3.6-liter single-turbo engine with an electric motor in the transmission and another small motor, totaling 532 hp. Porsche claims 2.9 seconds to 60 mph, and Car and Driver recorded 2.5 seconds. Both are EPA-rated at about 20 mpg combined, though real-world performance differs.
