Big Dog Ranch Rescue announced the permanent closure of Ridglan Farms and the transfer of its remaining beagles, 475, beginning this week. The Florida-based group said some dogs will be sent to its Florida and Alabama campuses where they will be spayed, neutered, and prepared for adoption. The rescue previously acquired more than 2,000 Ridglan beagles in April, as welfare protests around the farm intensified. Two people died in a Utah canyon BASE jumping accident, with Grand County Sheriff's officials identifying one as Andy Lewis, the extreme athlete known for Madonna's 2012 Super Bowl halftime show. The other victim was an unidentified 50-year-old man; the jump occurred in the remote Mineral Bottom area and injuries proved fatal after Sunday's attempt. BASE jumping remains a perilous sport that involves parachuting from fixed objects such as desert cliffs. A 900-pound time capsule marking the 250th anniversary of American independence has been sealed and shipped to Philadelphia, where it will be buried on July 4, 2026 and opened 250 years later. The capsule was built at the National Institute of Standards and Technology and contains submissions from the three branches of the federal government, all 50 states, five U.S. territories and the District of Columbia. The commission publicly released the list of contents on Monday. In Rio de Janeiro, two helicopters collided in the western zone, killing all six aboard; one crashed into a car dealership and sparked a fire, while authorities said Oliver Tree was listed among the passengers though identities were not confirmed.
