Truck capacity remains tight for U.S.–Canada and U.S.–Mexico freight lanes even as seasonal volumes soften, according to TRAFFIX’s August 2026 NAX Index released today. The index scored 57 for the U.S.–Canada corridor and 54 for U.S.–Mexico, both above the 50-point neutral threshold for a second consecutive month, indicating ongoing pressure on costs, limited capacity and growing regulatory burdens for shippers. TRAFFIX’s NAX combines more than 10 economic, freight and trade indicators into a single score. Alex Fuller, VP of Commercial Intelligence at TRAFFIX, said capacity is staying tight despite easing demand. The report notes Canada looks less predictable due to new trade measures, while Mexico is more stable, though truck availability can still impact rates.
