USPS Salutes the U.S. Coast Guard Academy's 150 Years

USPS is issuing a commemorative postage stamp marking the 150th anniversary of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. A dedication ceremony took place Sept. 12, 2026, at Custom House Pier in New London, Connecticut. The stamp is meant to reflect cadets who embody the Coast Guard motto, “Semper Paratus” (Always Ready). USPS customer experience vice president Marc McCrery joined Rear Adm. Gregory C. Rothrock, the academy superintendent, and Capt. Kristopher Ensley, commanding officer of the USCGC Eagle training vessel, for the event. The release also highlights the academy’s history: Congress authorized it on July 31, 1876, and training began in 1877 aboard the topsail schooner James C. Dobbin, later replaced by the cutter Salmon P. Chase.
