Valtteri Bottas has a 2027 Cadillac F1 contract. But Colton Herta could yet race instead
Cadillac’s decision to sign Sergio Pérez and Valtteri Bottas with multi-year contracts ahead of joining F1 in 2026 was meant to avoid “start-up” performance and operational problems. The team has gained early respect for its pace and professionalism, but its results remain stuck near the back of the grid, with recurring braking-system reliability issues. Pérez has largely led the drivers, while Bottas has fallen behind in recent races, including a crash in Baku after running nearly a minute slower. Even with a 2027 deal still acknowledged as secure, Cadillac F1 CEO Dan Towriss has seen leadership changes that have added uncertainty. Marcin Budkowski’s comments during the U.S. GP weekend now raise the possibility that IndyCar star Colton Herta could be promoted.
