A TikTok trend featuring a supposed “life-sized” Cat in the Hat character has sparked real fear and confusion, particularly among teenagers, after viral images and videos spread online as if the Dr. Seuss character were real. Police forces in Ireland and the UK issued statements confirming the clips are fake and AI-generated. Several accounts have amassed millions of views, including one with 14.6 million views in three weeks. Some videos show a person dressed in costume, while others circulate shaky AI images centered on Irish counties of Limerick and Wexford. In Wexford, Gardaí dismissed reports and confirmed AI generation. There have also been unverified social claims about attacks, while England’s South Yorkshire Police denied a “killer Cat in the Hat” sighting. The trend has reportedly even prompted talk of a real “meet and greet.”
