Weird day in Pasco: SUV in swimming pool, garbage truck on fire
Pasco police responded to two unusual incidents within about 1.5 hours on Thursday afternoon: a SUV drove into a swimming pool and, later, a garbage truck caught fire. Around 10:30 a.m., a driver at a home near Ninth Avenue and Court Street accelerated forward instead of reversing, Lt. Tom Groom said. The SUV hit a fence and ended up in a neighbor’s pool; the driver exited safely and was not hurt, and there were no signs of impairment. Later, at 11:45 p.m., residents reported a burning Basin Disposal garbage truck at 7700 Pender Avenue. Officers found the engine compartment on fire after reports of smoke, and firefighters used foam to extinguish the blaze, which was under control about 20 minutes later. Officials said the fire was not believed to be suspicious.
