Whaling Museum goes viral for 'worst aquarium ever' T-shirts, totes

New Bedford’s Whaling Museum is turning a bad review into big sales. After a Google user posted a one-star “worst aquarium ever” comment in 2020, the museum began selling shirts, hoodies, and tote bags featuring the review on the back and a whale skeleton on the front last fall. The design went viral after local coverage and a CBS Evening News segment aired Wednesday night. Between that broadcast and 2:30 p.m. Thursday, shoppers placed 738 online orders, and weekly sales rose 250% versus the prior week. Prices include $32.50 for adult shirts, $50 crewnecks, and $60 hoodies.
