What Does MSRP Actually Mean?
MSRP is one of the first numbers shoppers see on window stickers, dealer listings, and ads, but it’s often misunderstood. MSRP stands for Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price—the amount an automaker recommends a dealer charge for a specific vehicle. The key word is “suggested”: dealers may sell below MSRP, at MSRP, or above it depending on factors like inventory, demand, and local market conditions. MSRP typically starts with the base model price and rises with factory-installed options and packages. Destination or delivery fees, plus taxes, registration, documentation fees, and other charges, can push the final transaction higher. The final bill can differ, so buyers are encouraged to review the full breakdown rather than only the sticker number.
