Work on Loughborough car park charging points to get under way
Work to install a solar power canopy and electric vehicle charging points at a car park in Loughborough will begin on Monday, Charnwood Borough Council said. The project will add 12 charging points at the Southfield Road Extension car park, with the canopy producing electricity “to support the charging hub.” The council said the £200,000 scheme is funded through a county-wide initiative backed by government electric vehicle infrastructure funding, and it will also include a battery storage system. Construction is expected to finish by early October, during which some parking spaces will be unavailable and the car park may close for short periods. A cabinet lead member said the upgrade supports charging access for residents, visitors and businesses.
